Hello!

Are you aware that September 14th is 'National Live Creative Day?' Congratulations on that probably brand new information.

I want you to take a second and think back to those days where your parents first decided you were ready to roam around unsupervised. What did you do? Where did you go? What did your imagination brew up? For me, those days consisted of drawing buttons on my bookshelf for my time machine, and painting my face to be a wolf and waiting in the trees for someone I could jump down and scare. I had a lot of imagination. I bet you did, too.

These days, there are tons of modern ways to live creatively without destroying your home items or scaring the living daylights out of people. I'm not here to tell you to pick up watercolors for therapy (although that is a great idea), but I do want to share some modern methods to become inspired right this very second.

8 Modern creative things you can do today:

1. Print those pictures. When your kids grow up, do you really just want them to go through your timeline to get a glimpse at their childhood photos? Or do you want something they can hold in their hands like you had growing up? Create a photo book from all those Instagram photos you love: https://chatbooks.com/, https://www.artifactuprising.com

2. Got a break at work? Try the 30 circles test: Take a piece of paper and draw 30 circles. In one minute, see if you can adapt those 30 circles into objects. Did you make it to 30? Post a photo in the comments! (Fun fact: kids make it to 30 far faster than adults do, because kids are less critical of themselves.)

3. Does being creative mean quitting everything and camping for the rest of your life? Or at least daydreaming up a plan of how you would do it? Here are some places you can start: Get an account on Workamper.com, 5 Ways to Earn a living while traveling in an Rv, Airstream's list of ideas for jobs, Gone with the Wynns' Philosophy, join Amazon's CamperForce: http://www.amazondelivers.jobs/about/camperforce/, https://www.wired.com/story/meet-camperforce-amazons-nomadic-retiree-army/, and there are so many more resources out there!

4. Design your aesthetic flow. Rearrange your desk to look like it just popped out of a blog. Move your furniture around. Hang pages up from your favorite magazine. Clean. Light a fall candle. Do anything that makes you enjoy your surroundings more. It's just about feeling the effects of tuning in to the creative part of our minds.

5. Share your creative energy with us. Start that photography Instagram, or the blog you have been wanting to start. Wix is my personal favorite, and I swear I'm not being paid to say that. It's super easy and addicting. Squarespace is also extremely easy. Need inspiration? Here are some of the most creative websites in the world: https://www.siteinspire.com/websites -- My personal favorite today: http://www.kikk.be/2017/gt -- How cool is that gorilla island, I mean c'mon! Humans are amazing.

6. Lose yourself in a new project. This one is super close to home right now because I just took on the very fun project of hosting a Mini Photo Session Event. You can check out my project here: www.facebook.com/tidesandpines, and if you start one of your own, post it in the comments below. Big or small, I can't tell you how moving it feels to develop your own little "brainchild."

7. Write it down, type it out or heck, say it out loud. What is going through your head right now? Where do you wish you were? Are you happy right where you are? Who do you surround yourself with? Who do you wish you had close by? What or who means something to you? Be present in how you feel at this moment, and write it, draw it, text it, email it, say it. Express yourself.

8. Move your body in a new way. So... true story: I used to roll my eyes at yoga. I know, I know... that was very close-minded of me. I know that especially now because I decided one random Wednesday that I would try yoga five days per week for one month to see if it could be for me. Guess what, I did, and it is. Although I kept having to pick a new mantra each day just to get myself onto the mat, I gave it my all, and I came out feeling as if I had found a whole new part of myself that I didn't realize was there. The various versions of me are not always perfect. In fact, they are very far from it. The version of me who dedicates one hour each day to challenging myself, moving around in really difficult but crazy cool ways I wasn't able to do a month ago, and allowing myself to let go of my fears and anxieties for a little bit, that version of myself I like. Try something new. Take a risk. That's creative.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking. "I'm just not creative." or the time-old "I don't have time." Well I don't care what you say, you are creative, and you do have time. Your mind is amazing. You may just not have found your medium of choice yet. Creativity doesn't have to mean going out and buying a bunch of art supplies (again, I do support this if this is your thing). You can express yourself verbally, physically, virtually, and otherwise right this very minute. Tune in or tune it out, your call. Either way, remember these words: You are capable of extraordinary things.

We all have to start somewhere right? Now let's see it! Happy National Live Creative Day!

Now just for fun, here is a person who carves avocado pits into mythical forest beings. You're welcome.
